Final farewell

Lucky has been sick for some time. He has lost a lot of weight, stopped eating, wouldn't go outside much, wanted to just hang out in his kennel. Dad finally took him to the vet and he had an option to try to "fix" him or put him down. I said we needed to put him down because he was old and it wasn't worth putting all the money into him when we don't know if that will make him feel better. The family agreed. A few days before we were going to put him down I began to talk to Brielle about what was going to happen to Lucky. The first night she got real sad and cried. however as the day approached she was doing better. Saturday I packed the kids up and headed over to Mom and Dad's to say good-bye. He was doing SO well and was happy, running around and eating. It was hard to remember he was sick. Erin came over and went with Dad to the vet. She held him in her arms the WHOLE time. Even when he was given the drugs and he took his last breath. She took me by surprise when she walked in the door holding him. It was pretty sad to see him go, but he is in a better place. Transition will be hard for everyone, especially Taz. Luckily, we have Taz to help distract us.
We were giving Lucky his last treat, but Taz and Brielle stole the show

Brielle was able to fed Taz part of his treat

We buried him in the backyard and had a little funeral for him. We gave a little tribute to Lucky. We often call him Lucky Bum. I also called him the Bipolar dog because one minute he was nice and the next minute he would be growling which would led to a fight with Taz. I have never been too comfortable leaving Brielle alone with him, nor would I let him get too close to Miles. Despite his Bipolar personality he was such a loving and fun dog.
Afterwards we all had lunch and hung out together. You know what they say about funerals, the best part is the food and company.
The Dad's with their kids!
Brielle was SO cute. She found the dog brush and was brushing Taz. She had never done that before!

Matt eventually had to go back to work but first he was able to put Miles asleep for me.
